Our seasonal favorite Shauca contains grapefruit, ginger and a hint of mint. We source our ingredients locally and the final juice is raw and unpasteurized. This also means we do not use the HPP (high pressure pasteurization) method.
Grapefruit juice is low in calories and packed full of vitamins A and C, electrolytes, and nutrients. Grapefruits are a cross between an orange and a shaddock. This combination gives the grapefruit it’s sweet tangy flavor. Grapefruit contains 91% water, making them one of the most hydrating fruits. Similarly, grapefruits improve insulin resistance, and as a result, helps with weight control. One nutrient that grapefruit provides is naringin. This powerful flavonoid has cardiovascular benefits, improves bone mineral content, and may help lower blood lipids.
Grapefruit helps the body fight off viral infections. In addition, grapefruits inhibit breast cancer cell growth and mammary cell tumorigenesis. Medical research has found that grapefruits also help to reduce atherosclerotic plaque formation. We use a variety of grapefruit called the Texas Red to make the Shauca! This variety is in season from October through April.
Ginger gives the Shauca its kick! It was a popular ancient remedy for immune health. Now, studies show ginger is a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. As a result, it helps your body to protect itself from a number of health problems. For example, heart disease, cancer, arthritis, and Alzheimer’s. Ginger is also great for those with IBS or diabetes because it kick starts metabolism and can balance out sugar levels. It is known to help relieve nausea as well as muscle pain. In addition to reducing cholesterol, ginger lowers the risk of blood clots. We source our 100% certified organic ginger from Denison Farms in Corvallis, Oregon.
Mint is a herb that has calming and soothing properties. This herb helps relieve upset stomach, gas and indigestion. Mint also has one of the highest antioxidant counts of any food!
